References: A good contractor should have numerous references. |

Insurance: Verify that your contractor has General Liability to cover any on-the-job accidents |

Licenses: Verify through your local building department that the contractor is licensed to work in your area. |

Contracts: All contracts should be detailed and give the square footage, start dates, and materials to be used. |
|
|
Payment Schedule: A contractor with a good line of credit should ask for no more than 10-15% of a job up front to hold schedule dates. If a contractor ask for more than 15% up front, it's usually because their line of credit is poor because they are having cash-flow problems.
